Thia Martin

Thia Martin came to the filmmaking world through tragedy. In 2010, she and her family were one of the 150 families whose homes were lost or damaged by the Fourmile Fire in Sunshine Canyon. Since her childhood, she had always had a creative side, keeping her camera by her side as she raised her children, but inspired by the resiliency of her community to rebuild, she decided to document the decimation and rebirth of the canyon, resulting in the films Changed and To Build a Home. After the rebuilding of her home, she attended a presentation by the Buffalo Field Campaign at her children’s school, which ignited an interest in using her filmmaking skills to bring attention to the injustices experienced by the U.S. National Mammal. Combining her passion for art and activism, she serves as a member of the Buffalo Field Campaign Advisory Board and is director of Our National Mammal (Mountainfilm 2018).
