Shiouwen Hong
Shiouwen Hong is a director, photographer and designer who has traveled solo to some of the most remote places in the world for her films. She immerses herself in the lives and minds of the people she documents, despite sometimes speaking an entirely different language. With a passion for community, nature and the resilience of the human spirit, she always aspires to find the emotional heartbeat and optimism behind a story. In Caliefah (Mountainfilm 2022), Hong follows Compton-based, single mother Caliefah on a journey to create a better life for herself, her children and her community by using the resources at her fingertips – the earth.
