Richard Sidey

Richard Sidey is an award-winning conservation, adventure and wildlife filmmaker based in Wanaka, New Zealand. Sidey has documented the polar regions, wilderness and wildlife, including black bears and humpback whales using stunning black-and-white cinematography. In 2016 he co-founded the production company Galaxiid, which creates fresh, immersive cinematic experiences under water and from the air. A bike-packer and paragliding pilot, Sidey infuses his films with artistic inspiration from his surrounding environment — a quality that is seen in his short film Spellbound (Mountainfilm 2021), which delivers a breathtaking ode to flight.
