Kyle Dickman

A former wildland firefighter who spent five seasons fighting fires in California, writer Kyle Dickman has thrust hotshots — an elite group of firefighters who put themselves in harm’s way — into the spotlight. Dickman covered the Yarnell Hill Fire, a 2013 Arizona blaze that claimed the lives of 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots, as a contributing editor for Outside Magazine. His book On the Burning Edge: A Fateful Fire and the Men Who Fought It recounts the tragedy. Dickman has been nominated for a National Magazine Award, anthologized in Best American Magazine Writing and has appeared on “Anderson Cooper 360°,” “All Things Considered” and “Here and Now.”
