Dr. Lori Marino

As a biopsychologist and a neuroscientist, Dr. Lori Marino has used her scientific objectivity to lead a revolution in how humans perceive animals — arguing that science shows that animals should legally be recognized as persons. Marino is the founder and executive director of the Kimmela Center for Animal Advocacy and the co-founder and president of the Whale Sanctuary Project. Previously, she was a senior lecturer at Emory University and a faculty affiliate at the Emory University Center for Ethics. She was interviewed in the documentary Blackfish (Mountainfilm 2013) and brings her expertise to the short film Whales Without Walls (Mountainfilm 2021) as part of the Whale Sanctuary Project.
