Bill Heath

Nelson, B.C-based filmmaker Bill Heath began his film career in 1979 using a wind-up 8mm Bolex to film Ski Your Ass Off. Ass (and a little luck) got Heath's foot in the door with 16mm ski film producer Warren Miller during the mid-80s. After a long stint with Warren, Heath branched out into directing and photographing commercials and second unit material for movies. Providing creative sustenance between commercial work, Heath created a few of his own multiple award-winning works, including Sinners (2002) and Nine Winters Old (Mountainfilm 2008). In 2003 he directed and photographed Helliventures Production's, Pororoca: Surfing the Amazon about a surfing expedition into the heart of the Amazon to ride a mysterious bore tide wave. Pororoca is playing in Mountainfilm's 2018 archival program. Now, Heath is producing a documentary in British Columbia, hoping to bring awareness to his home province’s over-simplistic forestry practices. The film’s working title is Mourning Wood.
