Ashley York

Ashley York is an Appalachian-born mediamaker whose interests include feminist media, cinematic journalism and media for social justice. Ashley co-directed and produced Tig, a documentary portrait of acclaimed comedian Tig Notaro that premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and was acquired by Netflix. Her 2018 film hillbilly (Mountainfilm 2019) examines Appalachian identity through the perspectives of queer Appalachian youth, feminist writers and Affrilachian poets and fiddlers. Ashley is also a founding member of the design collective Take Action Games, which has partnered with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality, and she teaches in the USC School of Cinematic Arts.
