Alex Massey

Alex Massey is an award-winning, and on occasion award-losing, director originally from Australia. He now lives in San Francisco. His craft is driven by adventure and discovery, with the outdoors ever-present both thematically, and as a constant source of inspiration. Massey’s work includes Thirty Hours (2016), a heartwarming documentary about a 72-year-old runner completing the Western States 100, and Here and Far (2020), an exploration in meditation that captures Massey running 60 kilometers around his own house in 60 seconds of film. Massey’s most recent work One Star Reviews: National Parks (Mountainfilm 2021) is revelatory in its humorous rendition of hypercritical Yelpers and their opinions of Mother Nature. Massey is the director of From The Shadow Of A Mountain (Mountainfilm 2023).
