Filmmaker Update: Upcoming Works

By the time a film screens at Mountainfilm in Telluride, many of the filmmakers are already thinking about—if not actually making—his or her next project. With that in mind, here are some films that are fairly far along in production, many of which may screen at the festival in the near future.

Starting with the local production companies in Telluride, Colorado, Felt Soul Media (Eastern Rises, Mountainfilm 2010 and Red Gold, Mountainfilm 2008, which was recently updated by PBS Frontline) is hard at work on Damnation, a film about dam removal in the United States, a project partially funded by a Mountainfilm Commitment Grant. Another recipient of the grant went to Uranium Drive-In, by Suzan Beraza who directed Bag It (Mountainfilm 2010).

Outside of Telluride, we know of a few other Mountainfilm filmmakers with new projects: Tyler Measom (Sons of Perdition, Mountainfilm 2010) is working on An Honest Liar, which “profiles the life of famed magician turned professional skeptic James ‘The Amazing’ Randi as he embarks on a series of public crusades to expose the world’s beloved psychics, mentalists, preachers, and faith healers with religious fervor.”

Skip Armstrong and Anson Fogel of Forge Motion Pictures (Of Souls + Water, Part 1: The Nomad, Mountainfilm 2012) are busy producing the rest of the series, which includes The Warrior, The Mother and The Shapeshifter.

SweetgrassProductions (Last Light, Mountainfilm 2012) is bringing On the Road Episode IX—Skiing the Void to the screen.

And as long as we’re providing updates, some of Mountainfilm’s filmmakers are concentrating on efforts outside of film. For instance, John Chester (Rock Prophecies, Mountainfilm 2009) is working with his wife on a farm in southern California; Chris Paine (Revenge of the Electric Car, Mountainfilm 2011) is preparing to travel around the world (correct us if we’re wrong, Chris); and John Maringouin (Big River Man, Mountainfilm 2009) is, unfortunately, battling advanced lung cancer.
