America's Food Policy

December 15, 2008Nicholas Kristof, a New York Times op-ed columnist and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, was one of the first guests confirmed for Mountainfilm 2009. So this column from last week got our attention: "Obama's 'Secretary of Food.'" He argues that the Department of Agriculture is grossly out of line with the needs of American citizens. "Today, fewer than 2 percent are farmers. In contrast, 100 percent of Americans eat."Read more... Coincidentally, he links to an online petition sponsored by Free Range Studios (I encourage you to check it out and add your name to the list, here). You may have seen their Meatrix series (Meatrix 1 was an official MF selection in 2005) or more recently, the Grocery Store Wars, which made the rounds of the MF office a couple weeks ago.
