River Looters

In Bend, Oregon, thousands of people play in the Deschutes River — surfing, paddle boarding, tubing. But three of them pursue an unusual brand of fun by free diving and recovering what people lose when they’re dumped in the water on a narrow section of rapids. “We’re like the vultures, picking up what people drop, and hopefully we can get it back to them,” one of the looters explains.
