Overview
“If humans can create it, then humans can solve it.” This is the mantra of Dr. Lonnie Thompson, the legendary paleoclimatologist and explorer who’s been dubbed the closest thing to a real-life Indiana Jones for his extraordinary salvage missions. Scaling some of the world’s tallest peaks, Thompson has overcome daunting physical obstacles and overwhelming odds in his pursuit of millennia-old ice samples – priceless historical relics that provide critical glimpses into Earth’s future. This story of perseverance is both global and personal, delving into the urgency of the climate crisis, while revealing the inspiring journey of a man who went where no scientist had gone before, transforming our idea of what is possible.

Canary is more than a film. Canary is both a film and the symbol of a movement toward combating climate change. As told in the film, Lonnie’s story inspires us to face the challenge and motivates us to take action!
"There's a priceless history of the planet, frozen in time and stored in a freezer at Ohio State"
These ice cores are in jeopardy and they need our protection. The principal goals are to preserve a unique archive of ice cores for future research and support young scientists to extract climatic and environmental histories from the cores.
Donate to save an ice core, and together we can save them all!
