Cary Fowler

The Global Crop Diversity Trust seeks to ensure the conservation and availability of crop diversity for food security worldwide. In addition to being the executive director of the Trust, Cary Fowler has played a key role in the creation of the Svalbard Global Seed Vault near the Arctic Circle. Flowler’s career in conservation and crop diversity spans 30 years. He was a professor and director of research in the Department for International Environment & Development Studies at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, and he has worked with Bioversity International, with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and as special assistant to the Secretary General of the World Food Summit. Fowler was profiled by CBS “60 Minutes” and the New Yorker and is the author of several books on the subject of plant genetic resources.
