FESTIVAL { May 22-25, 2009 } THANK YOU WORLD TOUR { Year-Round }

It's not just about the films ...

“Undoubtedly,
there are other festivals more prompt, more professional, and better dressed. But these qualities have never figured
as the hallmarks of climbers—and the day
they do, I’ll want nothing more to do with climbing. The intimacy, spontaneity and innocence of Mountainfilm may be
one of the last great instances of mountain
spirit around."

Non-Film Events and SociAL EVENTS

PARTIES

A friend once said that “Mountainfilm is as much a conversation as a film festival.” Here’s a bunch of opportunities to carry on the conversation.

Gallery Walk
Friday, May 23 | 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The official partying gets underway with a round of receptions at 12 different galleries around town. The art is outstanding, and the drinks and hors d’oeuvres are free (many kudos to new Belgium Brewing and Redwood Creek Wine!). If you get waylaid by old friends, or mesmerized by the art, and can’t make the whole circuit, don’t despair—the exhibitions of paintings, drawings, photography and even a sand mandala, will all be open throughout the weekend.

Cocktails with American Alpine Club
Friday, May 23 | 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Marz Wine & Tapas | Colorado, Ave.

Climbers, mountaineers, old friends, locals—all are welcome to stop by Marz Wine and Tapas (just south of Colorado Avenue on the Spruce Street pocket park) during the Gallery Walk to have a drink with our friends from the American Alpine Club.

Late Night Friday
Friday, May 23 | 10:00 p.m. to Closing

The place to compare notes on films and presentations, or get the lowdown for the next day and rub elbows with Mountainfilm folks of every ilk, is the Cornerhouse Grille, one block north of Colorado Avenue on Fir Street. For late-night live music, head to The Bubble Lounge, just south of Colorado Avenue on Fir Street, or Las Montañas at the corner of Colorado and Pine. Noir Bar, just south of Elks Park on Oak Street, will host a live DJ.

Breakfast Talks
SATURDAY, May 24, 2008 • 8-9:30am
SUNDAY, May 25, 2008 • 8-9:30am
Monday, May 26, 2008 • 8-9:30AM

Multiple locations around the town of Telluride
Five locations over three mornings mean fifteen chances for coffee and muffins with the Minds of Mountainfim, either continuing the conversation from their earlier presentations or exploring a whole new project or topic.

Ice Cream Social
Saturday, May 24 | 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

We empty all the theaters and close Colorado Avenue down to give everyone a chance to enjoy the daylight, each other and free ice cream. Extra hoopla will be provided compliments of the Mallethead filmmakers and their bike polo crew as they take to a specially engineered cage called “The Thunder Doom.” There might be a little spontaneous unicycle street hockey, too. Feel free to join in.

Late Night Saturday
Saturday, May 23 | 10:00 p.m.

Reading Frenzy
Sunday, May 26 | 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Ah Haa School | Old Depot

A selection of authors will be on hand to sign books during this well-liked event. It’s so popular that we’ve moved it to a bigger space this year, the Ah Haa School. Also take this last opportunity to see the Tibetan sand mandala before it gets swept up and washed away in the San Miguel River.

Pig Roast
Sunday, May 25 | 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Chair 8 Restaurant | Base of the Gondola

Scrapple, a homegrown Telluride classic, screens Sunday evening at the historic Sheridan Opera House. Afterward, it’s an easy stroll down the hill to Chair 8, where Telluride restauranteur extraordinaire Jake Linzinmeir, Scrapple filmmaker brothers Chris and Geoff Hanson, Plum TV and Mountainfilm will host a moonlight pig roast. The pork is free (and organic). If you’re staying at the Camel’s Garden Hotel, hopefully you have a room on the east side of the building, and if not, we apologize in advance for the noise.

Closing Awards Picnic
Monday, May 26 | 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Telluride Town Park

Enjoy the delicious complimentary organic lunch served in Telluride Town Park and prepared by Lucas Price and his talented team from La Cocina de Luz. Unless we’ve already drained the reserves, there’ll also be free beer from new Belgium Brewing and wine from Redwood Creek.

General Scene
Throughout the Weekend.

For on-going good times, we have a couple of recommendations. Cornerhouse Grille is a designated Mountainfilm chill zone, a great place to mix, mingle, munch and hoist a mug anytime after noon. Plus, our excellent and generous friends from JanSport will be giving away free backpacks on Saturday and Sunday (check out ad in this program). There’s invariably a good time to be had at any of Jake Linzinmeir’s many and varied venues: Chair 8, The Excelsior, Bluepoint and Noir Bar. The Bubble Lounge has lined up live music throughout the weekend—get a hit of O2, a groove fix and help Troy and Kelly pay off their fines for violating Telluride’s noise ordinance. Las Montañas and Marz Wine & Tapas are two of the many other options for food and ale.

The Next Step
Sheridan Opera House Gallery
Mountainfilm is pleased to respond when audience members ask "What can I do?" To that end, we encourage a visit to this NGO / Non-Profit / Green For-Profit Expo where representatives will feed your mind with specific information from an array of organizations.

Gallery Exhibits
Galleries are open for quiet perusing. One might even run into the artists themselves.

All Films, Schedules, Events, and Presenter Participation are subject to change.
